Before establishing Maloney Vision Institute, Dr. Maloney was associate professor of ophthalmology at the UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Robert K. Maloney graduated with an AB in mathematics summa cum laude from Harvard University in 1979.

Dr. Maloney graduated with a MA in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford (England) University as a Rhodes Scholar in 1981 and as a MD from the University of California at San Francisco in 1985.

Dr. Maloney was an intern at UCLA in 1985-86, a resident at the Wilmer Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore from 1986 to 1989 and was a Heed fellow in cornea and refractive surgery at Emory University's Department of Ophthalmology in Atlanta from 1989 to 1991.

Dr. Robert Maloney has consulted for Premier Laser Systems for development of the Erbium-YAG system for corneal refractive surgery, VisionRx.com for the development of advanced miniaturized ophthalmic instruments, and Calhoun Vision, Inc for the development of a light adjustable lens implant. The Maloney Vision Institute has contributed more than 100 periodicals, abstracts and reports to professional journals and delivered more than 200 invited lectures on five continents. Dr. Robert Maloney was associate editor for the Journal of Refractive Surgery from 1991-95, on the international editorial board of the European Journal of Implant and Refractive Surgery in 1995 and is currently a reviewer for The American Journal of Ophthalmology; Ophthalmology; Archives of Ophthalmology; The Journal of Refractive Surgery and Ophthalmic Surgery and Lasers.

Dr. Robert Maloney is a former Heed Foundation fellow, a Heed/Knapp fellow, and a John Harvard scholar. He received the Research to Prevent Blindness Career Development Award, and the Mericos Whittier Award for lifetime contributions to Ophthalmology. Dr. Maloney has chaired or served as a member on several committees and subcommittees of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and won the academy's Honor award in 1993. Dr. Maloney also is a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the California Association of Ophthalmology, the Max Fine Corneal Society and Phi Beta Kappa.

The director of the Maloney Vision Institute, Dr. Robert K. Maloney, is the 1st surgeon in West North America to perform LASIK. Now, the Maloney Vision Institute with Dr. Robert Maloney continues to advance the field of lasik surgery as a leading ophthalmologist in the U.S. conducting Lasik, Verisyse, Conductive Keratoplasty and VISX. Dr. Robert K. Maloney, has operated on U.S. soldiers who have been deployed to the Gulf Region. The Maloney Vision Institute has boosted the vision of soldiers from all aspects of the American Military.Dr. Maloney is one of the top 10 lasik surgeons, as voted by his peers, and, Dr. Robert K. Maloney has performed more than 35,000 laser lasik surgeries and has trained more than 700 physicians in the use of the lasik laser. Dr. Robert Maloney was also awarded the prestigious Lans Award, for innovative contributions to the field of laser lasik eye correction.
